The Seeley family founders in the area were Jonathan and Rhoda Seeley. Jonathan Seeley (1793-1868) married Rhoda Kelly (1798-1877). They were born in Danby, Vt., but settled in Middlebury where they raised many of their eight children, some of whom died in infancy or very young. Few of their issue married and had children, but Smith K. Seeley married twice, and son John married Delia Goodrich. The family genealogy shows the lines of the extended family and provides a picture of the early Seeleys...

In 1801 the Middlebury Falls School District was organized. It served the area near the falls until 1815 when it joined with all districts west of Otter Creek to form the Western Village School District. The Western Village District school became District No. 4 in 1822. The school year was divided, by the state, into four terms and each term was administered separately. From the description of Middlebury, Vt., School District No. 4 records, 1801-1904. (Sheldon Museum Research Center)...
